Glossary

Biosolids - The term “biosolids” refers to  wastewater
solids generated by modern  wastewater treatment plants,
treated to a level to  meet the land application standards in
the federal  and state land application regulations.

Biosolids  are primarily an organic byproduct of
wastewater treatment that can be beneficially recycled.
Disposal – The term “Disposal” refers to the final
disposition of biosolids that makes no attempt to recover the
nutrients and use in a beneficial way.  Landfilling and
 incineration is considered disposal.
Beneficial Use – The term “Beneficial Use” refers to the
recycling of nutrients and organic matter into the soil
through the land application of  biosolids in a way that does
not harm the environmental and threaten public health and
 safety
Class B – The term “Class B” refers to a biosolids quality
standard related to the potential for pathogenic (disease
causing) organisms to be present.  Specifically, Class B
biosolids are treated in a process to significantly reduce
 pathogens.

Agricultural Tractors and Manure Spreaders are used to apply the biosolids.

When the application is complete, the biosolids
may be incorporated into the soil, or the material can be left on the soil surface for no-till planting.

The crop nutrient needs are normally met and fields are now ready for planting.
